Google stopped shipping Android File Transfer. This is what replaces it.
Android File Transfer was pulled from Google's site in 2024 and no longer works reliably on current macOS. Plugged does the same job with the standard MTP protocol every Android device speaks — and it does it without kernel extensions, background helpers or Finder mounts that fail.
What it does

If your phone doesn't show up
Use a cable that carries data (some charging cables don't).
Unlock the phone.
Swipe down the notification shade, tap “Charging this device via USB”, choose “File Transfer” (also called MTP).
