Census – Privacy Policy

Census does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. There is no account, no sign-in, no analytics, no crash reporting, and no server of ours for anything to be sent to.

What the app does

Census lists the devices on the network your Mac is already connected to. It looks only from this Mac, and only at the network this Mac is on.

• It asks the addresses in your own subnet whether anything is there, and listens for answers.
• It listens for the service announcements devices broadcast on the local network (Bonjour), and asks for local names.
• It reads the list of neighbours macOS already keeps for the local network.
• If you leave "Look at what each device offers" on, it opens a short connection to a fixed list of eighteen common ports on each device to see which ones answer. You can turn this off in Settings, and Census skips it by itself on networks with more than eighty devices.

All of this stays on your local network. Census never contacts a server on the internet — not ours, not anyone's. The table used to look up the maker of a hardware address is built into the app and is never fetched at runtime.

What is kept, and where

• On this Mac only: which devices have been seen, when each was first and last seen, the names you give them, and which ones you marked as known. This lives in the app's own folder on this Mac. It is never uploaded and never synced — there is no iCloud component.
• You can erase all of it at any time: Settings → History → Forget everything.
• Exports (CSV or JSON) are written only to the file you pick in the save panel.

Permissions

• Local Network. Recent versions of macOS ask for this the first time Census looks at the network. Without it the list stays empty; Census says so instead of showing you a blank window.
• Notifications (optional). Only used to tell you, on this Mac, that a device this Mac has never seen has joined the network. Turn it off in Settings.
• Census never asks for your location. It does no Wi‑Fi signal or channel analysis, which is the reason apps of this kind usually need that permission.

Third parties

No third-party SDKs or services are included. Purchases are handled entirely by the Mac App Store; we never see your payment details.

Children

The app is rated 4+ and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new effective date.

网内点名不收集、不存储、不传输任何个人数据。没有账号、不用登录、没有统计分析、没有崩溃上报，也没有我们的服务器可供上传。

这个应用做什么

网内点名把你的 Mac 已经连上的那个网络里的设备列出来。它只从这台 Mac 看，也只看这台 Mac 所在的网络。

• 向你自己网段里的地址逐个问一声「在不在」，然后听回应。
• 听设备在局域网里广播的服务信息（Bonjour），并查询它们的本地名字。
• 读取 macOS 本来就为局域网维护的邻居列表。
• 如果「看设备提供什么服务」开着，它会对每台设备的十八个常用端口各开一个很短的连接，看哪些有应答。这一项可以在设置里关掉；设备超过八十台时，网内点名会自己跳过它。

以上全部发生在你的局域网内。网内点名从不连接互联网上的任何服务器——我们的没有，别人的也没有。用来查硬件地址厂商的对照表随应用打包，运行时不联网获取。

存了什么，存在哪儿

• 只存在这台 Mac 上：见过哪些设备、每台第一次和最近一次出现的时间、你给它们起的名字、以及你标为「认识的」是哪些。这些存放在应用自己的文件夹里，不上传、不同步，没有 iCloud 这一层。
• 你随时可以全部清掉：设置 → 历史 → 忘记全部历史。
• 导出的 CSV 或 JSON 只会写到你在保存面板里选的那个文件。

权限

• 本地网络。较新的 macOS 会在第一次查看网络时询问这一项。没有这个权限，列表就是空的；网内点名会如实说明，而不是给你一张白纸。
• 通知（可选）。只用于在这台 Mac 上提示：有一台这台 Mac 从没见过的设备加入了网络。可以在设置里关掉。
• 网内点名从不索取定位权限。它不做 Wi‑Fi 信号和信道分析——同类应用需要定位权限，正是因为要做那件事。

第三方

不包含任何第三方 SDK 或服务。购买完全由 Mac App Store 处理，我们看不到你的支付信息。

儿童

应用评级为 4+，不会有意收集任何人（包括儿童）的信息。

变更

如果本政策有变化，新版本会在本地址发布并更新生效日期。
